Armchair General's Revue June 1998 Farewell to an old friend: Vampire999 has resigned his position as President of the Axis and Allies Club. Vampire999 is a long time club member, and will still be a member, but no longer has the time to devote to the club government. Thanks for all of your hard work in helping all of us. New President: That causes the promotion of ToddVomit to the Presidency. ToddVomit is also a long time member, who has held the positions of Minister of War, and Vice President. Todd's goals for 98 are : 1) Improving the Web-site to include automatic game starts and auto recording of game finishes 2) Releasing the Live Gaming capability to our Web-site so that all members can enjoy live gaming. 3) Streamlining the duties of government, to reduce the numbers of government members needed, and the amount of non-gaming activities required to support game play. 4) Improving the ease with which members participate, meaning that members should see reductions in time spent doing required non-gaming activities. 5) Creating the system to support and rank non-internet, live local game clubs. This means being able to accept as members the non-computer users who play in local events and clubs. 6) Creating an ongoing listing of local events such as game and sci-fi cons, tournaments and such to enable the membership to find opportunities to game. An Important Word of Caution to LIVE Gamers in the chat rooms There have been a few incidents of players trying to falsify the die rolls in the chat rooms. This is readily apparent to everyone in the chat room if you know what to look for. When the dice are legitimate, it will read like this : OnlineHost: Todd Vomit rolled 4 6-sided dice: 3 3 2 1 Here's an example of a falsified roll: Todd Vomit: Todd Vomit rolled 4 6-sided dice: 3 3 2 1 Notice how the OnlineHost wrote the dice results in the legitimate roll? In the falsified roll, the Player wrote the result. Make sure to look at the results closely enough to catch this difference whenever you play LIVE. ANY ATTEMPT at falsifying dice rolls will result in immediate disqualification in the game, resulting in a loss, and potential suspension and/or expulsion from the club. Don't do this even in jest, it will be considered a serious offense! If you are the victim of such a falsification, send the log and a report to the President and Minister of War Immediately. 2nd Annual Convention Information We held the 2nd Annual Convention in New Orleans May 22-25th 1998. It turned out to be a shootout between some of the BigGuns in the Club. In attendance were such Notables as : KRAZYHOUSE EnemyThine GIJim211 Rewstr Yuugal LordPez Quixande JohnPin569 Ksorn@ ToddVomit DGreyhig mwbk@ sidneykuhn@ BrassTacs redbarron@ HEXFP JamesU1004 memtgrs@ Billde01 Thanks to everyone for attending and providing the World Class Competition the Conventions are becoming known for. So who won the Convention Tourney? Well when the Con was over it was down to the Winner of KRAZYHOUSE vs Rewstr for 1 finalist spot and the other finalist spot went to ToddVomit. We'll soon have a battle between the conventional and unconventional for the Title. So how did ToddVomit with all his wacky ideas end up in the finals? By defeating 3 worthy opponents of course, EnemyThine, BrassTacs, and then Ksorn. Stay tuned for the big finale when it begins. And now some memories of the Convention by Quixande It was a wargaming kinda day... Hmmm.... I wanted to report to you about the Battle in the Bayou, but really all I saw was a blur of little plastic pieces and intent men hovering over their boards. Oh, there was good talk and good food when JohnPin enticed us all away for a bit to come by his place for an afternoon barbeque... and there was the backdrop of the sounds of war movies on the tube... and there were the intermitent cheers and cries of battle... dice banging in cups and dice banging on tables and dice landing on floors.... dice everywhere! And there was the exquisitely painted set I had the honor of playing 15 rounds with and finally getting whupped on by its creator, BrassTacs.... and the exquisite rolls (i purge all bad ones from my memory so i can get up in the morning) I got early on in one game that enabled me to somehow beat the So Tragic One... ...and the exquisite propaganda I heard from SidneyKuhn as he blitzkrieged me to 84... and all in the exquisite Hilton Hotel, New Orleans.... ::sigh:: I'm ready for the next one! Thanks ever so, TV and John. *:) Tourney Information After examining the rules, which states that the champion will be the player not to lose twice, and after 2 draws in the finals, we have co-champions for the Spring 98 Live Tournament! Congrats to: Yuugal and ScheffelD Due to their champion status, each player will be granted a #1 seed and right of first refusal for the next Live Tournament. 1998 MASTER'S INVITATIONAL ROUND 1 RESULTS #3393 #1 KRAZYHOUSE vs NobleKnt GM: HighCmmdr ----> KRAZYHOUSE #3394 #8 edavid@ vs gap@ GM: USAFTiger1 ----> edavid@ #3395 #4 G I Jim211 vs SoTragic GM: Havspac ----> G I Jim211* #3396 #5 Smitty4276 vs Legonuts GM: Todd Vomit ----> Smitty4276 #3397 #2 mheinz@ vs Tncolonel GM: jcritelli@ ----> Tncolonel #3398 #7 Rewstr vs jbutler@ GM: Kayveydog ----> jbutler@ #3399 #3 EnemyThine vs Tommfool GM: BrassTacs ----> EnemyThine #3400 #6 KrnlShultz vs Steavis007 GM: AnA Gamer ----> Steavis007 ROUND 2 PAIRINGS GAME# Player #1 Player #2 GM 3401 KRAZYHOUSE edavid@ USAFTiger1 3402 G I Jim211 Smitty4276 AnA Gamer 3403 Tncolonel jbutler@ BrassTacs 3404 EnemyThine Steavis007 HighCmmdr ***NOTE: Only Generals are left... And you wonder why it's called "MASTER'S"...*** Noble Knt Chancellor of Tournaments >From the Law Office... Greetings Fellow Warriors, An issue was brought up last month that concerns sub withdrawls. The German player felt that the current policy of a defender sending a surviving defending sub's retreat location with the next turn was unfair. For example, consider the Med in turn one. Let's say that Germany attacks the UK sub and it survives. The UK then gets to see the results of all the battles and then decide where to retreat to. If the Med is clear of shipping, it may retreat to the Red for other assignments. If there is Med shipping left, then he may choose to keep it in the Med for a counter strike. It is the attackers option as to the order that battles are resolved. An attacking player may request that the defending sub's location be sent in prior to the resolution of the remaining battles (as applicable). This should only be requested in a situation where it really makes a difference, and in the vast majority of battles it won't. We will continue to try to make e-mail play as close to live play as possible without having the games drag out forever. Players should only utilize these options when necessary and should not use them to needlessly prolong the game. With the addition of GMless play it is possible for a game to be played with one player using GMless and the other using standard e-mail with a GM. A potential conflict has arisen with the weapons development rules. As such, in a "mixed" game, the "GM" player may resolve tech rolls as per "live" policy and they will become effective immediately. Now on to the updates. There are 3 this month. HANDBOOK UPDATES Updates to the Handbook will be distributed in the monthly issue of the Revue. Only the affected parts will be sent to you so they will be apparent and easy to read. At all times, a complete copy of the current rules will be available on the web site. To assist our internet players, the updates themselves will be enclosed by << and >>. UPDATE #1 {To be placed under "CLARIFICATIONS TO MILTON BRADLEY RULES"} AMPHIBIOUS ASSAULTS: <<<<>>>> During an amphibious assault a TRN may move into an embattled SZ and pick up its cargo. It then MUST participate in any necessary NAVAL battles with its cargo onboard. Any surviving transports may then deliver their land units to battle in any ONE adjacent enemy controlled territory. The default OOL for amphibious assaults will be KAAC (Kill at All Costs). <<<<>>>> << AMPHIBIOUS ASSAULTS: A land battle is considered "amphibious" ONLY if a transport delivers inf or arm to the battle site. An amphibious assault potentially consists of 2 separate battles, a sea zone clearing battle and/or a land battle. SEA ZONE BATTLE: If there is a sea zone battle, attacking naval units may retreat. Any loaded transports that retreat from the sea zone battle may not move nor unload cargo during the non-combat phase of the turn. If the transports must move into an enemy occupied sea zone in order to pick up the inf or arm the transports are considered to be "loaded" prior to the sea zone battle being resolved. LAND BATTLE: The land battle may consist of land units from adjacent territories, air from anywhere, and potentially units from transports. If units are unloaded from a transport then the attacker may not retreat any units. It is a fight to the death and an exception to the normal retreating rules. If there are no units unloaded from a transport, then it is simply a land battle resolved like any other. Any adjacent land units and/or air sent to do land battle must at least perform one round of attack and then may retreat as usual. Be very cautious sending air units to support an assault force that may never make it.>> UPDATE #2 {To be placed under "GMless E-MAIL RULES",3) Playing the Game, c) EXCEPTION} <> UPDATE #3 {To be placed under "CLUB SUB RULE"} 2. After any one round of air-only VS sub-only combat, the GM ends the battle and all surviving submarines will be allowed to withdraw to any adjacent friendly or unoccupied SZ. The owner of the withdrawing sub must send in the location of the sub retreat with his next turn. <> >> JohnPin569 Part2 BrassTacs wishes to remind members to include their ranks and their bids when requesting Live Gamestarts, and reporting Live Gamefinishes. Since you made it past this list of games, on to more news! You may have heard rumors of some new things coming soon on our website. Well we are working on a new web-site, one that will be usefull, that is you will be getting your gamestarts from it, reporting gamefinishes to it, and entering the club and player pool from it. We are also working on an active player pool, which would let you put your name into the hopper and draw a random opponent from the hopper......Cool huh?.....instant opponents. Another feature is access to reports from the GamesDatabase, to allow you to see your rank, and research your opponents. What about a new name? There is some discussion of renaming the club, look for a mailing soon from your Chancellor of Members MDSoze telling you about why, and asking for your opinions..........here's your chance to speak through your Chancellor of Members. Some Open Government Positions The Chancellor of Assembly position is open right now, that job involves Hosting the Monthly Club Ad Hoc Meeting and maintaining the list o. This meeting is an open forum discussion of club issues and some strategy talk thrown in as well. These town hall type meetings have brought up some important issues, that have improved our club, so we consider them vital to keeping our club going in the right directions. Please E-mail ToddVomit if you're interested in the position. Chancellor of Tourneys position will be opening soon, as NobleKnt will be stepping down. This position is a very important one, and involves alot of effort to do well. If you think you can handle this job, and have the time to do it, the club really needs your help. E-mail ToddVomit if interested. Well, that was alot of information to sift through, I hope it got us back up to date. I will try to include as much as I can in the Armchair General's Revue, since it is most member's only way to know what is going on in the club. Membership is up again, we're now at 700 plus members with over 400 games running at once. Let's all look forward to more great gaming with the BEST Axis & Allies Players in the World. ToddVomit
