FROM THE BUNKER 12-7-96 Hail Cyber-Strategists! Just the thing to brighten those holiday blues. Your favorite nefarious newsletter.... From The Bunker! We have a lot of great information and commentary by your club government officials. Onward! >From the cluttered desk of the SGM... All hell is breaking loose!.... well, not really but we are having a record number of people applying for the club and playing games. This is a result of the new pricing for AOL and the cheap access provided for our previous internet waiting list applicants. A hearty "Well Done!" for our New Player Rep Beaverhut@aol.com and our Games Coordinator Vampire999@aol.com. Good job guys. Let's also welcome back Leodar@aol.com as he continues his excellent work as the Rankings Czar. Live Gaming : That's right! Now that AOL has gone to a fixed price for unlimited access, we are implementing new rules and regs regarding live games. Anyone with access to AOL will be able to use this new feature by playing their games in the Wargamers HQ chat room at Keyword: Wargaming We are still ironing out the wrinkles in play, but basically a GM will not be required as long as a chat log is kept of the entire game, and that this chat log is uploaded to the club library upon the completion of the game. If you desire to play an opponent live in the chat room, please e-mail the Games Coordinator with your opponent and your bid. Likewise your opponent will have to send in his bid before a game number is assigned. Dice will be rolled using the AOL chat room autodice feature. To roll dice in the chat room simply send the following command to the chat room: //roll-dice##-sides6 where ## will equal how many dice are required for that round of the battle. Just like face-to- face play. Our DSGM is working on the smooth copy of all the rules governing this new aspect of club play and again, I hope to get it out to you as soon as possible. Tales from the MopBoy... JPericles has been doing some research on our club members personal data. If you'd like to find out if another club members lives in your area, please drop by JP's folder in the News and Discussion folder. Take it away JP! As of my latest request from the members for personal info i can report......if our cruise ship beached on a deserted island...... 1. quixande would be very popular 2. our average age would be 33 3. herb fox would be in charge of building the raft 4. steve julton would do the actual building 5. jlee would keep people in line 6. the direction home would point to new jersey with the texas group puttin up a stink. 7. unless we found electric vending machines we would all soon starve Anyone who wants to add to my list please e-mail name, address. age, occ if you want. MopBoy aka JPericles@aol.com Club Ranking Czar's Commentary... AXIS & ALLIES RANKING NEWS I have decided to continue my office as the Axis and Allies Club Ranking Czar. So welcome me back (I never really left)! For all of you new to the club--HAIL BRAVE WARRIORS!--this is the BEST gaming club on the internet. The AACRS is a monthly installment of our club's rankings. Officers have won 8+ more games than losses, and fulfilled their GMing requirements. Non- commisioned officers are either less experienced or frequently unlucky. Everyone's record will be 'reset' at the start of a new season; and the end of 1996 is around the corner. If your record reflects a promotion, please message me ASAP. You must fulfill your GMing requirements; they are included in every AACRS. I do not keep track of everyone's GMing due to our ever-growing club size, fast-approaching 250. Also, if you have a record dispute, please write your claim to me. Remember, only the gamefinishes following the AACRS have been recorded--there is almost always some lag time (up to a month) after your game finishes and your updated record. This month's news features 3 General's Stars awarded--the first new multiple stars in our club's history! All this thanks to one man--our newest Brigadier General--CPNeifert. He challenged all 3 existing Generals and bravely battled to earn his rank. Victorious, EnemyThine and STATKMAN are now 2* Generals. There's plenty of elbow room up here amongst the officers quarters. Let's see more challenges from all you rising stars! Submitted for your enlightenment, LT LEODAR, Axis & Allies Club Ranking Czar Hail and Farewells from our NPR... Greetings Warriors! Our club is receiving windfall profits as a result of AOL's new prices in the form of record number of AOL'ers applying to join. We've had several waitlisters join AOL also. Look to see a lot more 'netters playing rookie games as we are now at 30% Internet membership. NPR Statistics Club membership 237 Applying to join 84 <<<<<<<<< Hurry Up! The train is leaving! I notice that a lot of the game folders in the club area need updating. Some haven't been posted to since October. If you are GMing a game or involved in a game where the GM is an internet member, please take the time to ensure that your game has a folder, and add the posts needed to make it current. I know it is a pain, but it is important to the club and to our ability to continue adding new features to increase your enjoyment of the game. I hope you all enjoyed this latest edition of the SGM update. Respectfully I remain, VAGRUNT SGM Subj: A&A: Tournaments Update Date: 96-12-07 12:34:04 EST From: Vagrunt BCC: LORD PEZ Wargamers, Here is an update from our Tournamentalist, MWRalston@aol.com. ~V~ Greetings everyone! MWRalston here with an update of ongoing tourneys. The Fall Classic: We are wrapping up the first round. All of you waiting on round 2 will not be waiting much longer. VAMPIRE999 and I are working on assigning the game#s and GMs. So, hopefully, that should get started withing the next few days. == The OPEN: Round 4 is under way! Here is where we stand... #1212 71702.3470@compuserve.com vs.CPNeifert GM: JimB614 #1213 Tncolonel vs. JimB614 GM: Legonuts #1214 U-47@ix.netcom.com vs.KRAZYHOUSE GM: CPNeifert #1215 Legonuts vs STATKMAN GM: KRAZYHOUSE == And, finally, the INVITATIONAL: Apparently, this tournament was scheduled to start in August, but due to a vacancy in the Tournamentalist's seat, it was overlooked and never got underway. I will now be rectifying that situation. I would like to get the first round started by January 1. I don't think it should be a problem. The top 16 ranked people (based on the Dec 1 AACRS) will be receiving an invitation shortly. If you are #17 or thereabouts, you will probably get an opportunity to join in, since inevitably one or more of those 16 people will be unable to participate. That about covers everything, so I'll sign off now. SirMike
