Greetings, fellow warriors. It's been a busy month since our last bunker. I am happy to report that our club folders have been cleaned up, giving us room to post your games and the link to the club page has also been changed so it now takes you to our new site. Also, with the club growing so large the club has split the Minister of Recruiting position into 2 posts. PapaSmrf30 will now handle AOL recruiting, and Quixande will do the netter recruiting, so if you have any friends interested in joining the club these are the people to contact. The club is now up to 443 members, so I wouldn't be surprised to see us at 500 by the end of the year. I would also like to take submissions for a new name for the club newsletter. If you have any ideas, send them on over to me at Vampire999@aol.com. Now, let's hear from some of the other members of your government. >From the desk of our Vice-President, LORD PEZ: <><><>Vice Pezident's Corner<><><> Salutations Warriors, Over four years ago (nearly a millennia in "cyber time") our club began playing Axis and Allies via email. Players sent their turns to GMs who rolled the dice and returned the results. The system works. We prospered. But a millennia is a long time and over such an expanse, new possibilities open up. Unlike four years ago, the web now offers dice servers that are simply begging to roll dice for enthusiastic A&A players like us. Accordingly, I wish to convene an ad hoc committee to develop club policies and procedures to put those web servers to use in our A&A games. The primary goal will be to offer GMless email games. There are some twists and turns to work out (how to handle defending sub withdrawals, secret orders that you'd usually send a GM etc.) but nothing that can't be surmounted. If you would like to be on this committee please email me (LordPez@aol.com) and I'll put you to work. Your Vice President Lord Pez <><><><><><> >From our Chancellor of Law, JohnPin569: >From the Law Office... Greetings Gentlemen, The Law Office has put the finishing touches on the new Handbook V3.4. The highlights were the new error correction policy and new GM protocols. These changes were made to simplify the much debated error correction problem and hopefully will ensure smooth and consistent gaming for all. There were also a few other small, though potentially important changes, made throughout the Handbook. Please take a moment to read it and familiarize yourselves with the changes to avoid a possible unpleasant surprise or two. This issue's rules topic is concerning the order "Save Air." I send in my orders and include a Save Air command, but to my chagrin, I read the results of the battle and discover that some of my air units were lost. How can this be? So I fire off a nasty letter to my GM, of course before I go back and re-read the definition of Save Air. **Save Air** This is the club default combat order. If no specific instructions on an attack are received by the GM, the GM will roll the battle until ALL attacking ground forces are destroyed and then retreat the surviving air units. I then closely look at the battle results and noted the last round. A=2 inf, 2 ftr D=3 inf A3 33/6 D3 1*1*1* 3 Hits Territory kept w/ 3 inf, 1 ftr returns home. It is important to realize that the battle will continue until ALL attacking land units are lost. Here is a way to ensure air safety. Include the following in your orders: **If there is ANY possibility that a ftr may be taken as a loss, then retreat. This is the only surefire way to ensure that all planes will return home. Take care and good luck. John Next we hear from micwil@sk.sympatico.ca, the club's Chancellor of the Internet: Greetings Axis and Allies Online Club Members, I would like to introduce myself to you all, I am the new Chancellor of the Internet for the Club, and have been hard at work for the last month or so on redesigning the Club website. I am pleased to report that it is about 90% complete now, and ready to take on suggestions for enhancements, improvements, expansion, etc. What do you like about the web site? What do you hate? Let me know, I need all your comments both good and bad in order to make your club's website one of the best on the World Wide Web!!! Why is our club website important? Well, it is one of the best advertisements we as a club have for getting new members. And what do we as experienced Axis and Allies players desire more than anything else? Fresh meat...I mean rookie players eager to learn from more experienced club members. In addition, the website serves as a repository for information giving full access to almost everything that the AOL members can access in the Axis and Allies area on AOL. Things I need from you, the membership --------------------------------------------------------- Hear ye, hear ye, the links page of the site is now accepting nominations for links to members pages on Axis and Allies. Have you got the best darn Axis and Allies tribute/strategy/hints/tips/variants page in the whole world? Or at least the best one in your household? Well, email it to me, and as long as it passes the muster of your club government (not a really high standard, especially after a long day at the office) you will get a link off of what will likely be one of the most popular Axis and Allies sites on the Web in the near future. Make sure to include the full URL of the page. Hear ye hear ye. Are you an Internet hack? Have you got megabytes and megabytes of storage space on your account which you just don't need? Would you like to donate that space to your favourite Internet club to enhance the services it provides for everyone? Well, email me, as we are looking for server space to house the old game results and anything else which isn't yet on the website. Do you have the best collection of Axis and Allies sites on the World Wide Web (we're talking non-members here)? Well, email it to me - I am setting up reciprocal links with every other Axis and Allies site in the world, in order to increase our presence on the Internet. Again more members = more players = more fun (of course, also = more paperwork for your club government, but that's what we are here for) I am looking for eccentric strategies for the strategy section of the website. Do you buy 1 battleship each and every turn when playing the United States? Have you found a large number of Russian bombers to be indispensable? I want to hear about your maverick strategies, and include them on the site. You will be given full credit for your strategy on the site, and it will be posted for all to see (and some to ridicule). Make sure your strategy is fully developed (ie, buy an AC in C. Med SZ as Germany and Africa is yours!!!!) is not sufficiently developed. Well, that about covers it. Oh one more thing, if you haven't checked out the site already, give it a look at http://www3.sk.sympatico.ca/micwil/axis/index.html And tell your friends, tell your enemies, about the site. And may the dice gods look favourably on you... Next up is Tourney news from Legonuts, our Minister of Tourneys: HEY, ALL! Guess what! It's time for the OPEN again! For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, let me explain. This is a tournament for EVERYONE who's interested! No experience required! All you need is the following few things: 1) a desire to see just how good you are--winners will wind up playing with the very best Axis & Allies players in the world & 2) A real NEED FOR SPEED!! This second point is really important! Since there is a 2-month time limit on games, this means that you will normally need to get a minimum of one full turn out each week. This means you need to check your mail pretty much every day, and roll them dice when you are the GM!!! This can be done! We have had games finish in 5 days (Allies won on UK 8), and we've had games go as far as round 20 within the 2 months! Also, if you are not willing to GM, don't sign up! If you are a newbie, and are unsure about how to GM, don't worry, the staff is here to help you, and we can answer any questions that you may have. Okay, Lego, shut up and tell everyone how to enter! All you need to do is to email "Legonuts" ('netters, please address to "legonuts@aol.com") BEFORE AUGUST 30th, and tell me you want to be in the tournament. I'll have all the info out to everyone before the first round. Couldn't be easier! Finally, we hear from DesrtFox69, the Minister of Archives: Here is the list of all the games currently running. Please check to see if there needs to be any corrections, and if so, let myself (Desrtfox69) And Todd Vomit know, so we can fix 'em.
