Greetings, Fellow Warriors, First, I would like to thank everyone who submitted suggestions for the new name of the bunker, and a special thanks to ROrvik@aol.com, for the winning suggestion. Now on to some club news. Also being renamed this month is the Chancellor of Propaganda. This position which is responsible for the club's player pool, will assume a new name more in line with the position's responsibilities, the Chancellor of Belligerents. We are also still working on getting our message boards fixed. I know many of you are frustrated as much as I am and I ask that you maintain patience during these trying times. Hopefully, this matter will be resolved soon. Now let's hear from the other members of your government: First up, is LORD PEZ: <><><>Vice Pezident's Corner<><><> Salutations Warriors, Increased popularity of live gaming in the AOL Wargamer's Head Quarters chat room compounded by the ever growing netter faction has forced a review of our A&A OnLine club game forfeit procedures. Below you will find the latest on how to go about requesting that forfeit. The changes are minor but should prove beneficial to us all. Behold. . . FORFEITS: E-Mail Games You may request an e-mail game forfeit if your opponent has "disappeared" for over five days. To request a forfeit e-mail the same request message to your opponent and GM. Your opponent then has 5 days to explain their absence or forfeit the game. If your opponent responds in time, your GM will adjudicate the forfeit request based on the explanations given by the parties concerned. If disputes over forfeit requests arise, they should be forwarded to the Vice President for resolution. Reasonable "leaves of absence" are allowed provided you notify your opponent and GM first. Disputes over reasonable leaves of absence will also be resolved by the Vice President. When games are won by forfeit, GMs must be sure to notify the Vice President with a carbon copy of the results as well as forwarding the results to the usual parties. Exception--Only games in which German turn 1 has been completed can be won by forfeit. If your opponent disappears prior to the Germany 1 turn being completed the game will be annulled. Note--Axis players are NOT allowed to use this rule to bail out of a game after a wildly successful Russia turn 1. If a player doesn't "disappear" the game is forfeited not annulled. Finally--it's good policy to check in if your game has stalled for a few days. Many a forfeit can be avoided this way -- "Oh! I thought we were waiting on the GM's results!" Live Games You may request a live game forfeit if your opponent has "stood you up" more than once or proves continually unavailable for live play. Live game forfeit requests are adjudicated on a case by case basis. To request a live game forfeit e-mail the same request message to the Vice President and your opponent. Your opponent then has 5 days to respond or forfeit the game. If your opponent responds in time the Vice President will adjudicate the forfeit request based on the explanations of the parties involved. As with e-mail games, only live games having reached Germany turn 1 will be forfeited; other games being annulled. ANNULMENTS: By mutual agreement players can agree to annul a game. Annulled games are not "draws" and have no affect on club rank. If both players agree to annul a game they must notify their GM. The GM should carbon copy the Vice President of the annulment as well as forwarding the results to the usual parties. As with forfeits, players who continually annul games may be eliminated from the club. GROUNDS FOR ELIMINATION FROM THE CLUB & DROPPING OUT: Players who continually forfeit or annul games will be eliminated from the club. If you are going to be gone for any length of time, please take a few minutes to inform the club government. (Copy to the President, Vice President and Minister of War). If you are GMing a game, the Minister of War will assign a temporary GM. Elimination will only occur when notification is not given. To drop out of the club simply e-mail the President and Minister of Archives with your request and inform them of any games you are currently playing or GMing. Dropping out during a game is highly discouraged and may result in that player not being able to rejoin the Club at a later date. Your Vice President Lord Pez@aol.com <><><><><><> Next is micwil@sympatico.com, our Chancellor of the Internet: ------- Now November's Net News ---------- The new look for the website is here!!! Due to repeated demands for expanded functionality and increased content, the website has expanded to meet the needs of all our 500+ members. While more enhancements are being worked in all the time, most of the site is now 'settled in' so to speak --- so let me know what you think of the new site. I am still interested in knowing what kinds of questions should be on the survey page. Specific question suggestions would be the best --- so start making them. The survey results will be compiled and posted in the next Bunker. Finally, I have yet to receive any interesting strategy suggestions from our club members --- with over 500 of you out there, you must have some interesting and/or unique strategies which you have developed while playing the game either face to face, live or via email. Mail them to me, and you will receive full credit for them, and get your strategy on the website in the innovative/unique strategies section. Micwil, signing off. >From JohnPin569, and the Law Office... Greetings Gentlemen, I realize that it's still early, but if you know you're coming to the Battle in the Bayou (as all good Warriors should) then drop me a line and let me know. If FTF with some of the best A & A players in the world isn't enough motivation, then the two words "Bourbon Street" should put the nail in the coffin. Visiting Bourbon Street is something you just gotta do at least once in your lifetime. Next, a few words about defaults. I have been receiving a lot of mail lately concerning complaints about the club defaults. The defaults were never intended to cover each and every possible situation that may arise in a game. They were created to speed up e- mail game play and to take subjectivity out of the GM's role by providing Orders of Losses when none were sent in by the player. (GM subjectivity, by the way, used to be a major source of complaint) Players have always been encouraged to send in OOL's with each battle, to include defensive OOL's for possible later attacks by the enemy. In the absence of specific OOL's we created defaults that would apply in the vast majority of cases. This eliminated the problem of having to wait for OOL's to be sent in and particularly the complaint of "Hey, I didn't want the losses in that order." It would be easy for me to eliminate the default OOL's and require that OOL's be sent in for every battle and for the GM to wait for the defensive player to receive the turn and send in his OOL's. But do you really want to go through all that trouble and the ensuing delays? HANDBOOK UPDATES Updates to the Handbook will be distributed in the monthly issue of the Bunker. Only the affected parts will be sent to you so they will be apparent and easy to read. At all times, a complete copy of the current rules will be available on the web site. To assist our internet players, the updates themselves will be enclosed by << and >>. Update #1 **RIO** - Retreat if Outnumbered. If the number of defending forces is greater than the number of attacking forces at the end of any one round of combat, retreat the attacking force. <> Update #2 BATTLE RESOLUTION: GM REQUIREMENTS AND ERROR CORRECTION GM REQUIREMENTS: When a player submits his turn to the GM, the GM will resolve any battles as follows: 1. The GM will organize the attacking/defending pieces as per the Battle Board layout. 2. The GM will roll for all aa guns and bb support shots, <> 3. The GM will roll for all attacking submarines <> 4. The GM will then roll for the attacking units in the 1's column. The GM will then remove the appropriate type and number (as per default or special orders of losses) of defending units to the casualty area. The GM will then roll for the attacking units in the 2's column, <> etc., until all attacking units have fired their shots or there are no defending units left. Note that all columns are "generic", meaning if there are 3 arm and 2 ftrs that five dice are to be rolled simultaneously for a 3, not three for the arm and two for the ftrs. 4. The GM will now roll for the defending units <<(including units in the casualty area)>> and remove the appropriate type and number of attacking units. 5. This sequence will continue until the attacker withdraws, the attacker is destroyed, the defender is destroyed, or both the attacker and defender are destroyed. 6. The GM is required to list all die rolls for every round of all battles. Moving on, the revisions to the Handbook seem to have worked well. The error correction complaints have disappeared like magic. 7. The GM is required to list all die rolls for every round of all battles. That's all for now. Good luck and take care. John >> and here's Legonuts, with Tourney news: Legonuts, here! Many of you have requested info on the tourneys. Here's the brief version. We are well into the second round of both the "Summer Screwup" as well as the OPEN; and the Spring Classic finals are almost set. Gen Bjbmongo will play the winner of game #T1809 between zwoof@ and kesteren@. Speaking of Finals, CONGRATULATIONS go to Gen EnemyThine, who was very impressive in winning the 1997 Invitational tournament, as he defeated MHeinz@ in the final game. Great show, guys! Now to the immediate future: The fall classic will be played this year, but due to the large number of currently running tournaments, we will be starting it on December 15. Probably call it the Holiday tournament, or something silly like that... We also are working on a few new rules to help ensure smooth tournament play. We should have them all set by the start of the December tournament, and we will be publishing the complete schedule for 1998 tournaments in the next Bunker. That's all for now, folks! Legonuts. Finally, DesrtFox69, with game news: Games running as of 10/27/97 Please look this over and let me (Desrtfox69@aol.com) know if any of these games should be listed as completed.
