News And Other Stuff

In early July the Summer Open started and I am proud to say that it is the biggest tournament around for quite awhile. Sixty two members signed up for this event! I hope it is fun for all of you!

Last time I posted here a proposal for a tournament I received from one of our members. There is a discussion on the IAAPA BBS about a new tournament, which I would like to present to you. Comments are welcome, so please send an email with your comments to tourneys@axisandallies.net. Thank you!

Here is a quotation from the BBS post made by Airship, the inventor of the "Admiral's Cup":

I propose a "Crazy Navy" tourney. Come-on, you know you always wanted to play Axis with more boats; but to make it really work you need to bid high - maybe too high. Now you can bid that sub in WSp SZ or that trn in CMed and still have IPC left over for some land units. . . . And you don't have to worry about the opposing bid going all "Power Europe" on you. ** In the first two rounds of the tourney ALL bids are required to include at least one naval unit. Cool, you say; but what about the final 3 rounds of the tourney? ** In the final 3 rounds of the tourney ALL bids must include at least 16 IPC of naval units. This 16 IPC requirement could be met by two "cheap" boats or by one of those more pricey numbers. The bids would be high; but the games would still be sanctioned, rated, IAAPA approved, A&A 2nd Edition purebreds. It's called Navy, and it's called Crazy.

Please give me feedback. If enough members sign up for this it will be a pleasure for me to host this event.

The last topic is the annual Rivals on the Rhine tournament.

This tournament will be against the German / European A&A online club DAAK. In previous years it was held in August, but this year it will most probably be later. You will get an invitation for this event, along with the details. Some information in advance: you will still play a single unrated game only, the DAAK rule-set will be used (an English version is now available) and yes, this year we will kick their butts !!:-) Rumors say that AAMC might join... Stay tuned for news!

2002 Summer Open: A bridge too far

We have a winner in this tournament! After a hard fight against Scottly it was Nieles who won the game and secured the last bridge in Arnhem! Congratulations!

2002 WorldCup

The WorldCup Final Round is near it's end... the final game between Argentina (limboguy) and Italy (Novi) is underway! This game is a classic... two great soccer nations, two great A&A players... we should hear some interesting reports from this final soon.

2002 Fall Classic: Blitzkrieg!

Cnty9047@ was the last, but not least :-), one making it to Round 5 - Russia - of this tournament. He now meets mighty HoganS who himself tries to make it to the final. There either MolotovCocktail or Kaizen is waiting for them...

2003 Masters Tournament

One semi finals is still under way in this tournament, while one is waiting in the final for the winner. The last three on the battlefield are HoganS, Starchild (the defender of the title) and Frogman10@, who won against Nieles in the second semifinal. It will be most interesting to see who will make it to the finals.

2003 Summer Open: Alexanders' Campaign

Thank you very much to everyone who signed up for this event! With 62 players this is the biggest tournament IAAPA currently runs. All games of the first round are underway and the first results are coming in. The ITSL Prairie Panzers, Raist and Daninja, rolled over their first round opponents (including another Panzer team member) and blitzed to the second round. This time there will be blood on the prairie as only will be left to keep their panzers rolling. DeBruce, Amgor, HoganS and Abnranger were also quite fast in dealing their death blows and are currently waiting for their next opponents to finish their games.
